I went to in state university for a semester. Didn’t go well. Was having issues and basically failed every class.
Took 6 months off. Went to local CC from March 2016 to now, transferring for Fall of 2018. Currently have 3.5 GPA.
Was under the impression it was basically like I didn’t attend the in state university right out of high school, spoke on the phone with people.
Just met with advisor, she is under the impression I NEED to talk about this school when applying.
Confused. Will colleges I’m applying to see my grades from this university? I have no way to access these grades. Thought it was like I didn’t attend this school because I basically didn’t pass anything.
You are required to report your entire educational history. Your new college will not see the previous grades but they will see that you attended that first college because there is a national clearinghouse that will show it. Failing to report it will result in denial of transfer admission. You request a transcript fro that first college and they will send it to the new college.
Basically you did attend the first college and failed out.
Most applications ask for - All current and previous college work, including dual enrollment (if applicable), must be noted whether or not transfer credit is desired. If currently enrolled, a transcript of your most recent college course work is required. In addition, transcripts from all colleges attended (past and present) are required prior to completing your application. If offered admission, an official final transcript sent directly from the registrar from each college previously attended will be required and must be received by the deadline noted in any official offer letter mailing.
Just because you did not get any credit from your prior university does not negate the fact that you attended. Sorry no free pass.
How is that? Do you owe money to that university? You need to contact your first university and find out exactly what your situation is.
Please don’t forget that if you do actually have a transcript from the first place, your CC needs a copy in order for you to be fully admitted as a degree candidate. If you are just taking classes in non-degree status and not working toward an AA or AS degree, then your CC doesn’t need a transcript.
I agree with @happymomof1. Your inability to access your transcripts may be due to a hold that the university has placed on your account.
I think your adviser means a couple of things when she says you NEED to talk about your time at the university in question. First, it’s a requirement–you’ll have to disclose that you attended this university, and provide transcripts from the school, whether you failed out or otherwise.
Second, since you’ll have to list and provide transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions, your failing at the university will raise red flags for any and every institution you’re applying to. Therefore, it’s advised that you talk about your time at that school, and how you’ve improved personally and academically since entering CC.
As one user said, failing to list ALL post-secondary institutions will result in an automatic denial of admission. Though it’s definitely is a smear on your transfer application, if you’re able to honestly and maturely discuss how you have grown as a person these past few years, the places you apply to will genuinely see that.
