I'm doing a research paper on a French politician, which I'm writing in French this summer. It's basically my extended essay for the IB, but is it worth sending in? It combines my knowledge of French and economics.

It's not related to my intended major, but it's still something I'm generally interested in. It might show that I have an interest in a broad range of subjects. Would I be able to include a little text explaining what the essay was, why I chose to write on this topic etc. etc.?

I wouldn’t. But if it turns out to be very good, you could send it (or at least an abstract). Be sure to check with the colleges you’re applying to as well, as some specifically state they do not want additional materials like that, while others may be more apathetic or even interested in them.

What I would try to do is integrate it into the descriptions of your ECs, your essays, or tell your teachers and see if they can mention it in their recommendation letters. If you win any school awards for the essay, or have it published somewhere, then that’s something you should put down.
