I'm currently in 10th grade in a full IB school. For IB HL subjects I will choose Math, Physics and some other subject. For standard level subjects I think I will go for english, dutch and art. I was wondering if you need pick a language in the Naval Academy. I am a native Dutch speaker so that's why I chose that, however, I know that if there is foreign language requirement, Dutch will probably not be included. Does anyone know if I am required to have done foreign language course in High School to be accepted into the Naval Academy? Thanks!

The USNA Admissions Website says, in part:
"If you are in 10th grade, you should continue focusing on your academics, extracurricular activities, leadership roles and taking the PSAT. 10th grades are also able to apply for STEM. When planning your high school curriculum, you should keep the following suggestions in mind:
4 years of Math: Algebra I/II, Geometry, and Trigonometry (at a minimum) and Pre-Calculus or Calculus if offered.
4 years of English
2 years of a Foreign Language
1 year each of Chemistry and Physics (with a lab if available)
1 year of US History and 1 year of World or European History
Computer instruction is very helpful
We recommend Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate courses if offered. "

OK thanks. So that means that any foreign language is accepted, right?

Yes, they don’t really (to my knowledge) care what language it is, so long as it’s a foreign language.

Thanks to both of you for your help!

A few thoughts …

I confess my ignorance, having never heard of another candidate proclaiming Dutch as his foreign language. Interesting.

I’ve no idea if they count a language a candidate already speaks. I think as long as you’ve received school credit, it “counts.” Try for 3 years. 4 is better. I believe the app asks what language(s) are spoken at home.

Like your “stage name.” Indeed, you are.

Yeah, I’m a native Dutch speaker, so it is the easiest for me. When I graduate high school I will have finished over 4 years of Dutch. Thanks, though
