Hello,
I am currently a senior at a pretty competitive high school. I am taking 5 AP classes at the moment, and I am considering dropping my AP french class. I find it to be my most difficult class and I am considering dropping it. What negative consequences will dropping this class bring? Could it affect my admission into the schools I am applying to? Below are the schools I am applying to:
Colgate University
Bates College
University of Michigan
Vanderbilt University
University of Vermont
University of North Carolina

Since you have a small targeted list of schools, I’d look online or in a college guide book for each school’s requirements for admission. That said, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a school ask for more than four years of language. Colleges want to see a strong senior year schedule, but if you have 4APs after dropping French, that won’t be an issue. If you have a good guidance dept. in your high school, I’d check with them.

4 years of language is plenty.
