I am an incoming freshman and am wondering whether or not I truly need to bring my car to Tally. I plan on going Greek and definitely going places off campus, ie clubs bars etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A car is great to have but not essential.

Need? No. You get most places in Tallahassee with the bus system.

Does it make it easier to get there if you have a car? Yes.

People keep saying you don’t really need one, maybe as a freshman you can get by w/out a car. Buuut, if you want to look for work or need it for work or shop for groceries or just do random things with friends it’s SOOO handy to have a car.

I survived almost 3 years at FSU without a car. If you’re any good at planning, you can easily get around Tallahassee without a car. You might have to walk a bit from a StarMetro or FSU bus stop to where you want to go, but you can get almost anywhere within Tallahassee without a car.

It works for some. So far I’ve driven a lot to look for work, go to interviews, do a lot of grocery shopping whenever it’s convenient for me. Able to do spur of the moment things and not have to wait around for the bus.
I just can’t imagine not being here without my car, it would be terribly inconvenient. It’s different for everyone, and if you can manage without a car than do it, b/c parking on campus is nuts and people drive horribly here. If you know you will need a car for work and so on, then yes take your car. If you want it just for fun times, I don’t see the point. You can walk to many locations or like Pasbal says take the bus. No point taking up a parking spot on campus when you won’t regularly be using your car. I see so many cars already that have not moved for WEEKS on campus. It’s irritating.

I did not have a car my first year. I bummed a lot of rides off my friends though.
