Do I need a valid passport to appear for the SAT?

Hi,I am an international student from India. I recently registered for the October 10 2009 SAT on the collegeboard.com.I would turn 18 on 23 October 2009.But after paying for the registration , I came to know that for identification purposes I need to bring along a valid passport on the test day.As of today , I do not have a passport. Is it absolutely necessary to have a passport to take the SAT ?Are there no other means of photo-identification such as a school ID card? And if I really need a passport for the SAT, can I get it before October 10 2009 , if I apply tomorrow by the latest?

Besides, even if they allow me to take the test , will there be any risk of my scores being delayed or completely rejected due to lack of proper identification?
(I read one such post in this forum : someone's score was delayed as he used a university ID for identification instead of a passport.)

Thanks in advance.I would really appreciate any kind of help.

School ID is usually good enough.
I brought my passport the first time and everyone stared.

Are you taking the test in India?
At the bottom of this page it states:
[SAT: Acceptable Photo ID](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools)
Students testing in India, Ghana, Nepal, Nigeria, and Pakistan

You must present your current and valid passport containing your signature and a current, recognizable photo. No other form of ID will be accepted.

If you are not taking it there, the top of the page lists acceptable identification.

Yes with a photo
