do i need an interview?

hey, i'm from nj, i didn't get into northwestern so now i'm applying to usc annenberg and i wanted to no whether or not i should schedule an interview. The thing is that it might be a little hard for me to fly out on short notice since the app is due in less than a month, plus, my parents don't really want me to go to cali but maybe goin there would help them open their eyes...i don't necessarily need the interview to get in,I have a 2110 SAT with a 3.5 uw/4.0 w gpa, but i want to give myself every oppurtunity to get in...any thoughts?

i went and it felt like a waste of time. it doesnt affect your admission- that is what the interviewee said.

Interesting..I had the exact opposite experience.

I gave a solid interview and gave the interviewer (who was assistant director of admissions) a DVD of various news clips of my special talent/hook. I e-mailed her a thank-you note and ran into her later at one of the admitted student receptions. She told me that her kids really enjoyed the DVD (Hah!)

I'm convinced the video helped me get in, since I was a borderline applicant.

In your case, I wouldn't sweat it too much because your stats are solid even w/o interview.

My interview was with the Director of Admissions, so I feel that it probably helped because she really liked me. They had like 2 interview days near me, so I signed up for that like 2 months ago and had mine the day of the UCLA game.

My interview was in Philly, i had to drive 2 hours to get there...but the person interviewing me happened to be the same person i met at the Meet USC in New York .... and she remembered me ( she was from ....and I think it really helped....she took a lot of notes, we talked a lot about extra curriculars and my reasons for why i did what i did.

bottom line....it can only help and i think it shows that you're rlly interested especially for borderline kids (like me =) )

i dont know, my interview person asked me what my sat score was
i replied 2300
next question: he asked what was my first choice school
i responded USC
he looked at me and sarcastically and said "thats good to hear"

Not all interviewers are the same, and the consensus opinion about interviews (both from this website and other students at 'SC) has been positive. It's too bad that yours wasn't beneficial. I think it's unfair to extrapolate to ALL interviews and declare it a waste of time.

yah i agree. it was just that one. the one i had with u miami was great. we were able to talk for an hour about neuroscience and biochem. but the interview for usc was so short- only twenty five minutes.
