Hey Everyone, Just wondering, if I take phys 101/102 can I still enroll in CHEM 120? (General Chemistry 2).. because on the website it says "Prerequisites: (pre- or co-requisite) College level mathematics and physics, or permision of the instructor". I'm not sure by "college level physics", if they are referring to 131/142 only or if 101/102 (intro physics) is also acceptable.

Also, is PHYS 131/142 mandatory for upper level chemistry courses? Like Organic chemistry (2nd year) and intro to physical chemistry?

Thanks in advance!

from what i’ve read phys 101 and 102 will be good for chem 120. i doubt that physics courses are required for upper level chem courses. im hoping to go into chemistry so phys 131 and 142 are required. what are you going into? this may help [Major Program-specific advice | Faculty of Science - McGill University](http://www.mcgill.ca/science/sousa/newstudents/u0/bscfreshman/specific)

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the help! For now, I want to major in Genetics, but I am also trying to keep my options open as I may want to switch to Chemistry as my major in the future. So consequently, I might need to take physics 131/142 as well, though the biggest problem is that I have never taken physics in high school so that will be a major challenge for me. How about you, yours plans? :)

I’m going into chemistry and if you are considering that as an option then take phys 131 and 142 because they are required for chemistry.

I agree with McGill Hopeful, I’m also going into Chem and you do need physics for physical chemistry 1, which occurs early on, that being said, it is a CO-requisite, so it won’t hold you back. Doing intro physics in U0 might help you get in better shape for 131 and 142 next year, that way you’ll be able to follow the course without delay.
