I currently live in Michigan, and have a 31 act score, but my dad says that to be eligible for california schools' SCHOLARSHIPS (berkeley, ucla, ucsd, cal poly, san jose) that I need an sat score. Is this true? Can you provide any links to back up your claim?

Best bet is to call your schools and ask them directly.

yea, and don't forget that for UCs you have to have SAT2s

wait what? someone help

Do your own reach kid, visit the admission website of the schools in CA which interest you. If you can't find it on the web then call the admissions office and ask to speak to an admissions officer/counselor.

I sent you a PM.

Make sure you start your research NOW. Many MI schools are clueless about the need to take SATII's. If you need to take them, you'll want to get them scheduled right away. It's a lot harder to get into SAT's in MI than it is to get into ACT's ... there are fewer test sites & they fill up really early! D didn't take any SATII's (figured there were enough schools she liked that didn't require them!), but I would guess they fill up at least as quickly as the regular SAT tests.

If you aren't in a metro area, you might have to travel to a testing site. You can check out open testing sites when you schedule online, I think.

so when determining my addmisions, will cal schools look at my good act score or my potentially bad sat scores?

The UC's only require one or the other, so you can just send them your ACT scores. If you do take the SAT, you can hold off on sending it until you see your score, if you want. But the schools only consider your better scores, so it really doesn't matter. If your SATs are awful, the ACT is what they use. They don't hold the "bad" scores against you.

But you DO have to take SAT subject tests in addition to the ACT. Go to www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/fracadrq.htm and look at the testing requirements. Look at ALL the requirements while you are on that page AND look at the link for OOS students. You need to do this for any college to which you are considering applying ... if you don't, you might find out too late that you don't have the things you need.

are there a lot of opportunities in michigan to take the sat subjct tests? Can I take them in the summer?

nope, earliest for anyone is October....

just search Google and do your own research.

Go to the College Board website. All the info you need is there!
