Do I need to complete entire bio series

Would I have to completely start over the bio series at a university if I do not complete the entire bio series at my junior college? Specifically for UC Davis. I tagged with a major that does not require me to finish the bio series however, I do not want the zoology class that I did go to waste since I received an A in the class. However, I do not want to put my tag in danger by taking two bio classes at the same time on top of chemistry. Any advice would help.

Thanks :slight_smile:

Is zoology part of a series. What CCC are you at and what major did you apply to?

There are three bio courses in one series those including Bio 1A Botany, Bio 1B Zoology, and Bio 1C Cell and Molecular Bio. The major I tagged to is animal biology from LPC

Looking at assist:
—1A and 1B need to be done to match the single Davis 2C course;
—1C fulfills Davis 2A course;
—1C completes the missing course (of three) to fulfill Davis 2B course

So I would get 1A done in spring. Then all you’re missing is the equivalent of Davis 2A, which you can take there.

You could also list 1C for summer 2019 (if offered) and then ask after acceptance can do it at Davis.

Short answer: to cover all of UCD BIOLSCI 2A, 2B, 2C, you need to take all of LPC BIO 1A, 1B, 1C.

^^^ but it says you don’t need to complete the entire series on assist. So leaving that one course off (1C) should not invalidate what he’s already taken. That was his question if I read it correctly.

Hi thanks for all the advice! Also a girl but its all good. I guess my major concern is taking a course equivalent to Bio 1C at Davis so I don’t have two bio courses and a chem class at the same time

Also, do you know if you do not complete the entire gen chem series say chem 1A only, can you do chem 1B over there thanks for all the help!

True, but leaving out LPS BIO 1C means that the OP would be missing (parts of) BIOLSCI 2A and 2B at UCD and would therefore have to take both of these after transfer (if she can be admitted with those courses missing), though she would be covered for BIOLSCI 2C if she took LPS BIO 1A and 1B.

If the OP takes only one of the three LPS BIO courses, 1C will cover one UCD BIOLSCI course (2A), while 1A or 1B would not fully cover any. There is no combination of two of the LPS BIO courses that covers more than one UCD BIOLSCI course, so the OP would need to take all three LPS BIO courses to get more coverage (and that would cover all three of the UCD BIOLSCI courses). In other words, if the OP has not yet taken any of the biology courses, take LPS BIO 1C, or take all of LPS BIO 1A, 1B, 1C before transfer.

If the OP has already taken LPS BIO 1B, adding 1A or 1C will result in covering one UCD BIOLSCI course, while adding both 1A and 1C will result in covering all three of them.

Regarding the chemistry question, the ASSIST page shows:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a) CHEM 2A    Genl Chemistry          (5)|CHEM 1A    General College         (5)
                                         |           Chemistry I
a) CHEM 2B    Genl Chemistry          (5)|CHEM 1A &  General College         (5)
                                         |           Chemistry I
                                         |CHEM 1B    General College         (5)
                                         |           Chemistry II
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So LPS CHEM 1A covers UCD CHEM 2A. Leaving out LPS CHEM 1B would mean that the OP would need to take CHEM 2B after transfer to UCD.

However, the animal science major also requires organic chemistry:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHEM 8A    Organic Chem-Brief         (2)|CHEM 12A    Organic Chemistry I    (5)
CHEM 8B    Organic Chem-Brief         (4)|CHEM 12B    Organic Chemistry II   (5)
                   OR                    |                  OR<br>
CHEM 118A    Org Chem, Hlth & Sci     (4)|CHEM 12A    Organic Chemistry I    (5)
CHEM 118B    Org Chem, Hlth & Sci     (4)|CHEM 12A &  Organic Chemistry I    (5)
                                         |CHEM 12B    Organic Chemistry II   (5)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is therefore a good idea to complete as much chemistry as possible (LPS CHEM 1A, 1B, 12A, 12B) before transferring.

@ucbalumnus That could be.

Ohlone nearby only has two courses, not three, but OP has the wrong one under his belt. He’d still need three.

I’d go with option of taking the third in summer, whichever one is available. As completion is not a requirement, it shouldn’t impact admission, although it may be part of provisional.

Thank you for all of the clarification! I will most likely do two bio courses together and take chemistry over summer. Hopefully, that will be the best decision… but I appreciate all of the advice

Also, to take make things clear, if I do not take chem 1B over at a CCC but completed chem 1A before transferring does this mean I only have to take Chem 2B at Davis; since chem 1A at a ccc accounts for Chem 2A at Davis?

Yes, according to ASSIST, LPS CHEM 1A covers UCD CHEM 2A.

However, you need LPS CHEM 1B as a prerequisite to LPS CHEM 12A: http://www.laspositascollege.edu/chemistry/courses.php

What I would suggest is you contact Davis directly with these questions. You are TAGing so it might not be relevant but on assist it urges completion of chem. Let them tell you directly your best options re these courses.
