I love volleyball and am very interested in it and I don’t just do it to put on a college application. I played freshman volleyball for freshman year and JV volleyball for sophomore year. I learned today that I would not make Varsity because he took all the Senior DS’s which was two and the max amount of DS’s he would take was two so technically I didn’t have a chance to even make the team since he was going to take they way before tryouts. So my question is since I played two years in a row and if somehow I made Varsity senior year does it show commitment or do college reviewers look at it favorably still? ( I also do many other things such as volunteering, leadership of a club, treasurer of my church group.)
Volleyball, or any sport, is an EC - no better and no worse than any other for the non-recruited athlete. 4 years JV will not show any less commitment than 4 years of V. If you enjoy VB, keep with it.
Agree. Also if you have the opportunity to play volleyball outside of school, or volunteer with a younger youth team it will show your love for the game.
If you have 4 years of VB, just state it that way. It is no different than being in French club for 4 years even if you were only an officer for 1.
Are you dropping VB and then thinking of trying out for it again as a senior? That I don’t think is a good plan because then you’d have only 3 years plus a gap, and you might not make it back onto the team. If I misunderstood, and you are going to play JV, great. Enjoy the season (and you never know, you could get moved up midyear).
I only made two years freshman and JV. this year for my junior year I did not make it due to seniors taking my DS spot I’m not quitting it as I have aspiration to play varsity as a senior but does it look bad I didn’t make this year but do things like volunteer after school to make up for it or work with younger kids for volleyball
okay thank you guys I was worried that it would look bad if I didn’t make it this year regardless if I did some type of volunteering either regarding volleyball or something not regarding volleyball. So if I volunteer at the library I looks just as good for playing the sport right
Are you aware that most colleges don’t weigh ECs? Only the very tippy top ones do to distinguish among the surfeit of super-stat academic applicants. Perhaps you’re worrying for nothing. This is a myth that engulfs most high school students.
okay for UC’s this wont really mater though right
