Do I need to fill out FAFSA if I know that there is absolutely no chance that I can qualify for anything financial need based?

i have same problem too..my parents made more than 80000...

Fill out the FAFSA. At some schools, if you don't apply as a freshman, you cannot apply in subsequent years (check each school's policy). Also, even with $80K in income, you may still be eligible for some aid. If you don't apply you won't know. AND lastly, by filling out the FAFSA, at the very least, you will be offered a Stafford Loan (unsubsidized if no need, subsidized if need). Also, if you have a financial crisis during the year (job loss, high medical expenses, etc) and you want your financial aid reviewed, you will have to provide your financial information (via FAFSA) from before the financial issues and the changes to have the finaid office reconsider your financial aid mid-year. Better to do it now.

I had the same question. Finally decided to go ahead with the FASFA based on advice similar to the last poster. But.. then hit the CSS/Profile. A number of my D's schools required that as well, and it cost $25 per school to send. I ended up emailing the schools and they all promptly emailed back (very impressive!). Only 2 had any value of the CSS for non-need aid, the others said it was not necessary... only the FASFA for the Stafford Loan.

Uh I have a single parent that makes more than that and owes absolutely no money on anything. My mom hates sending out financial things unless she has to. The school I'm applying to is fairly cheap.

Is the FAFSA required for any merit based scholarships?

bump, please!

for some schools, the fafsa is required for consideration for merit scholarships. ask the schools you are applying to.

NYU is one of those schools (and it is a fafsa only school)

Are you “legally” required to fill out the fasfa in order to attend college?
No, you are not required to fill out FAFSA in order to attend college, in general, though an individual school could require it. If you want student loans, parent loans, you need to fill out FAFSA and there are schools that have merit awards tthat need FAFSA screening.
