Do I need to fill out the FAFSA?

I've already been accepted to a number of schools rolling or EA, many with very generous merit scholarship offers. There is zero chance I will qualify for need-based aid anywhere, and I don't plan on receiving any.

Does my family still have to fill out a FAFSA?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.

Not unless the school requires it for merit aid. Most don’t but a few do so check with your schools.

Highly recommend doing it! Later on one of your parents could lose their job. Sometimes a school might not consider you for financial aid unless you have been filing every year.
So what if FAFSA should kick out that your EFC is $99,999 ? Apply for aid every year!

^ Given that a) I’m probably going to take a full-tuition+ scholarship offer and b) we have substantial college savings in my name and c) my parents savings are significant enough that we still might not qualify, I don’t think that’s a concern.

But if it’s not a big deal to file, I’ll talk to my parents about filling the forms out anyway.

No one HAS to file a FAFSA. Schools may not allow you to apply for INSTITUTIONAL aid in subsequent years if you don’t APPLY (note…not get…just apply) as an incoming freshman. At this point, it doesn’t sound like you will need that aid.

BUT what happens if your grades are not sufficient to maintain your full merit award? What happens if there is a reason in future years for you to NEED institutional aid?

The FAFSA isn’t all that hard to complete. Personally I would do it…but if you really don’t feel you need to…then don’t.
