Do I need to get a teacher rec from a class I'm getting As in?

Hey I have a question.

I had this teacher last year and got As in her AP Lang class all year. I have her again this year for AP Lit and got a B on my first quarter grade. I will have a chance to pull it up to an A if I do well second quarter but she might have to indicate that I currently have a B in her class.

Does this negatively affect me? That I got a teacher of a class in which I'm not excelling? Should I try to get another teacher to write a rec for me, even though I gave her the recs long ago? If so, how do I tell her that I don't need her recommendation anymore? Will she hate me?

(I'm aiming for the Ivies so I feel like every little thing counts)

Thanks.

Colleges actually say that they want recs from teachers who know you best, not necessarily the teachers who give you As. So if she knows you well and can write vividly and positively about you, I don't see that this B will really affect you, unless it affects her letter a lot (an answer which only you or other people who personally know the teacher can answer; different teachers focus on different things about a student).

I heartily discourage telling her you don't need her recs anymore if you already gave the forms to her--she may have sent them off already, and, anyway, it's not very polite. Just relax; I am sure it will be fine.

You want a rec from the teacher that knows you well and loves you.

I agree with the above two posts.

My first teacher recommendation is from my science teacher of two years. I got a recommendation from this teacher not only because I've gotten A's in both classes but because I am enthusiastic about the subjects we've studied, the teacher and I get along well, and the teacher is heavily involved with the "student leadership" committee I'm on.

My second recommendation is from my 11th grade English teacher. I got this recommendation because we had a GREAT relationship and not because of the grade I received. I got a B in the class. I thought it would be great to get a recommendation from this teacher because in his recommendation he will (at least I think he will) write about how although I only got a B in the class, I did work very hard, was active in class, and tried my best (This is good since I'm a math/science guy and want to show colleges that I DO care about my humanities classes).

So yeah, don't just think "Ohh I'll ask this teacher because I got an A in their class". Think about how well you know them, if they're involved in anything outside of class with you, if you were really enthusiastic about the class, etc. Good luck!

all right...thanks.
