Do I need to go to chem 1a and bio 1b lec or lab/disc. ALL of the time?

I have it very early in the morning, and labs way later in the day. If i don't need to go in the morning then i can try to move my labs down earlier. I don't really want to spend the last part of my day in classes. I heard bio 1b is webcasted...does that mean video too or just sound? someone said that about my class right now but it's only recorded with sound. no video.

I took Chem 1A and Bio 1B together Spring '10. They’re both webcasted with picture and sound. I went to all of the Chem 1A lectures because of iclicker points. I only went to Bio 1B lecture the first week and then webcasted the rest of the semester lol. I did extremely well on Chem 1A and not so well on Bio 1B. Go figure.

you don’t need to go for bio 1b, but you should go to chem 1a for free i-clicker points.

lol well I mean, if you webcasted for bio1b, wouldn’t it be the same as being there? I wouldn’t think that’s why you did worse. but I wouldn’t know so elaborate please : ] can u pM me your grades? I just want to get a general idea of what people get in those classes because i’ve never talked to someone in the spring one.

for some people stuff being webcasted means they get lazy and don’t keep up. just keep up with the webcasts and you’ll be fine. plenty of people never go to lecture and get A’s.

Okay, that’s good. yeah i would definitely keep up on lectures. I’m dumb as it is so not watching lectures would be a bad idea. lol

here’s a tip: in addition to doing well on the exams, you should make a big effort to do well in discussion/lab. iirc, that portion of the course counts toward your grade for a lot. don’t screw around, and try to answer your worksheets completely and diligently.

what’s iirc? and thank you for the advice! I will make sure i do that then.

iirc, it stands for: If I remember correctly.

Professor Resh said one year they did a study. People who went to Bio 1B lecture all the time or almost all the time tended to do the best, people who just watched the webcasts did bad, and apparently the people who sometimes go/sometimes watch the webcast did the worst (because they can’t develop a solid learning method).

He will mention that at some point in lecture. He will likely omit the third group (he mentioned that in one of the GSI meetings in Sp09 when I was a UGSI), because he doesn’t want to encourage people to be content being in the second group.

great. that means i have to wake up at 7:30 AM lol to go to lecture if i want to do good. jk lol idk i think i do better when i’m at home. when i’m in lecture, i feel like i’m just listening but i don’t hear them.
