Do I need to inform colleges about a dropped class?

So about two weeks after I sent my transcripts, I dropped a college calc class without completing the first quarter. It shows up as a W on my transcript. I thought it was okay to leave it until it shows up on my mid year report. I won’t be hearing back from any of my schools until it is sent anyway. The earliest is February 15th from my ED2 school, NYU. Do I need to notify the admissions office first?

It would be on your transcript if you were enrolled long enough. Don’t tell admissions about dropped classes. They can ask if they care.

I disagree. While it will show up on the mid-year, the mid-year will not be sent until after decisions are made. Acceptances are always contingent upon a host of factors. Your application stated you were taking a class, and in the end, you did not; AO’s don’t like surprises of this type. Tell them. If they have an issue (which they probably won’t) they will tell you. But if they have an issue, they will probably give advice on how to rectify, so better to find out now rather than late Spring or Summer when it’s too late to do anything.

First of all, you cannot hide it anyway. You better be proactive and notify the admission office. Senior schedule is part of the college application and they do consider it during the admission process although dropping one class may have little effect on it.

Right. If you expect them to review you, including the info that you’re taking a college calc class, then you let them know you withdrew. Otherwise, it’s not an accurate picture.

You should inform each college you applied to that you have dropped the course.

My S had a course change after being admitted to 6 schools. He was told by the HS college counselor to email the schools he was still interested in to let them know.
