Do I need to pass chem placement test to get my AP Chem credit?

I got a 4 on my Chem AP which means I can get credit for it. If I fail my Chem placement test, will I still be able to use my AP credit or will I have to take chem again? I’m majoring in mechanical engineering so with my credits, I should be able to get out of chem and only take one lab (required disputed credits). So do I have to do well in my chem placement? Or does it not matter?

I think you need to do well on your placement test as well. You shouldn’t have a problem with it though if you got a 4. For comparison, I did well enough on it to test into Orgo and I also got a 4. I wouldn’t sweat it at all

@96blue I took chem two years ago though and am a bit stressed because I don’t know how in depth to study :frowning:

I got a three, took it during my junior year. I needed to pass the placement exam to get credit, so I reviewed my prep book literally the night before for about four hours. I tested out and it was surprisingly much easier than the AP exam. Expect questions from topics like empirical formulas and trends. Nothing too difficult. Also, I don’t think you need to place out. For LSA’s AP credit information, it doesn’t say so.

Check this out http://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/ap-ib-credit. I think with a 4 you’re fine no matter how you do on the placement test.

As far as I’m concerned from what this website says, the placement exam only places you into Orgo if you got a three on the exam. If you got a four or five, you are free to elect Orgo regardless.
