Do I need to retake SAT II math?

I want to apply for MIT as I like it a lot and I have been on its campus, lived in its dorm for a couple of days when attending an activity there earlier this year.

Here's the problem: I got an AMC score 120 out of 150, an AIME score 13 out of 15. Is it weird to have an SAT II Math 2 of 760? I hurt my feet badly on the morning of the test day so...you know what I mean...just a bad luck Brian.

Yeah, a 760’s really weak considering that you got a 13 on AIME. Also, nearly 15% get an 800, so a 760 puts you around the 75-80%ile, somewhere around there.

Then again, your AIME score of 13 could even compensate for the 760, as MIT merely glances over test scores. You should be fine.

SAT II’s matter little and there really isnt a difference between a 760 and 800. Don’t worry.

How did you do on the USAMO?

Yeah…I’m kind of considering to retake it in January. It won’t take up too much time to revise I suppose. It’s just if it worth the time and effort to do so that I am concerned.

cortana431, That’s some relief… FYI, I am not a resident of the States of any kind, so I did not qualify for the USAMO. =(

I suggest taking a released SAT II test under realistic conditions at home. If you score about 760 at home, maybe that is your true score. If you do much better at home, you may do better if you retake it.

With you background in Math you could probably take a couple of Barron’s Math Workbook tests to brush up and score an 800. However, I doubt the 800 would make any difference in your application. If you were at 720-740 I would say retake, I think you are good with a 760.

Beliavsky, thanks for the advice. Yeah I usually do a 800 model test at home/at school. I will consider if I have time. =)

bublubu, that’s a very detailed advice…I’m waiting for my SAT I score so if I reach my ideal score, I’ll take math 2 in January.
