hi, i am about to apply to michigan tonight. yes i know i am late but it is not my first choice. anyways, i am trying to get the decision back as fast as possible (since it is rolling).
is it required that my scores are in by November 1st? if so does that mean i have to rush ship?

As long as your shipping date is by Nov.1st, it would be fine. But it’s better to do rush ship.

I thought the deadline was febraury first. HELP!

The deadline is February 1st for regular decision. November 1st (today) is the deadline for applying early action.

What so are you saying that even if you have outstanding extracurricular activities, above average GPA, first generation immigrant, first generation to go to college, and average SAT scores you have a slim chance of getting in if you dont apply early action? I couldnt apply early action because my teachers specifically told me that they would not start writing rec. Letters untill November! Ahhhh!

It’s somewhat of a myth that you have a better chance of acceptance if you apply early action. That might be the case at smaller schools with less class spots to fill, but less so at UMich I believe. Applying EA mainly gives the impression that you’re slightly more interested than if you apply regular decision, but it has less impact than many think. Really the main incentive for applying EA is getting an admissions decision earlier than you would otherwise.

EA makes a significant difference for international applicants. It helps for domestic students too, but not nearly to the same extent.

Not applying EA is perfectly fine. Very soon you will start to hear about all of the people who applied EA and got deferred to regular admissions and lots of them will get in. On the other hand, don’t wait until late January to apply, you will have a tougher time getting in as there will be fewer spots.
