I have recently achieved some more things in my extracurriculars, do I need to send emails to update my admissions officers? And will it help my application or make me sound braggy?
At the two reach schools to which I applied, I sent in some emails about my additional achievements between January 15 and March 10. I’m not aware if it affected my application, but I was accepted to both.
In Gateway, for some schools, after you have submitted the Candidate Profile, under Part 2 there is space to list additional achievements, under “Candidate Essays/Statement”.
How significant are these achievements?
For example, if you received some kind of outside recognition for your achievement, that’s probably worth a brief update. OTOH, if your club nominated you for something minor, I’m not sure that on its own is worth an email.
It’s a fine line between bothering AO’s and telling them something they probably should know. Run it by us here, or ask your counselor at school if they think it’s worth updating. Whatever you do, keep it brief and to the point.
These are middle schoolers who’ve only been on earth a few years. Most have few real achievements yet, so almost any accomplishment is worth noting.
Rhanks everyone for your help. Is it okay if I just update the schools where there isn’t an additional achievements section? And I should do this between submitting the application and M10, correct?
Are you expecting additional things to add? If so, wait a bit. I wouldn’t leave it later than early Feb if you can help it.
Why?
Isn’t it better to submit such information before the application deadline 01/15?
Please explain your reasoning.
I think it may not be clear to @Lindagaf that this discussion is about middle schoolers applying to boarding schools, not colleges.
Oh boy. Nope, I wasn’t aware this was a prep school question. Thanks so much @ChoatieMom ! Oops, sorry OP. I confess I was totally flummoxed as to why you mentioned middle schoolers.
Yeah, this is for prep schools, and @stalecookies the reason I asked if I should wait is because of what @confusedaboutFA said. Anyhoo since two of the schools I am applying to already have an extra place where you can add more achievements I will just email the schools without that option. Thank you everyone!
That seems like a wise and logical choice to me.
Good luck!
