Do I need to send SAT scores with the Common App???

I always thought that I had to send SAT scores directly from the Collegeboard and pay the $10 fee whenever I applied to a school. Yesterday, my guidance counselor, who isn't very knowledgeable (she had a student come out of class to answer my questions about the Common App), said that colleges will accept the scores from the back of my transcript she sends in. Is this correct or do I need to pay the fee every time I send scores to colleges?

Many years ago most colleges accepted scores provided on the high school transcript. Now majority require official scores from the College Board, but there is still a significant minoirty that accepts scores on the high school transcript.Nevertheless the continuing trend is for more and more schools to switch from accepting scores shown on the transcript to requiring the official scores from CB.

So whether you actually need to send a transcript depends on college and what is required is provided on the colleges’ sites, but generally you are going to find any high ranked colleges require the official transcript.
