Do I need to take a Science class Senior Year?

I had a conflict with the science class in my schedule for senior year and need to choose another class. I have narrowed it down to either AP Chemistry or AP Comparitive Government. My current schedule is AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, AP Macroeconomics, AP World Literature, IB Technology for a Global Society, and 2 Free Periods (I have enough credits from previous years and really relied on my study hall last year). I have already taken the three science credits I need to graduate (Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Physics I). I know my schedule would be more rounded out if I take a science class, but I’ve heard AP Chemistry is one of the hardest APs at my school and has one of the worst teachers while I’ve heard AP Comparitive is one of the easier AP Classes and has one of the best teachers at the school. If I take AP Comparitive I feel like it would be less stressful and more enjoyable but I’m worried about whether my application would suffer from having no science senior year. If it matters, my top choice for college is University of Maryland and I’m hoping to get into the honors college. My major interest is in Computer Science. Would it be wiser for me to take the potentially more stressful class in order to add another science to my schedule or will I be fine if I take another social studies class and no science?

I don’t think it would really hurt your admissions chances, but I think it would be wise to maybe take a science course at your local community college

To be honest, I think taking the AP Comparative course and getting an A will look a lot better than taking AP Chemistry and getting a B or below. Your schedule is hard as it is: two AP maths and AP lit will be very strenuous. While I do not know much about IB technology and its difficulty, Econ and Gov will be great GPA boosters and eventual credits when you take the exams. It would be too much of a burden to be in a difficult class with a bad teacher, likely resulting in stress and a chance at a bad grade.

I took 6 science courses in high school, applied with a science major, and did not think that it made much of a difference.

Good luck.

I think that you should take AP Comparative government, because the rest of your schedule is very rigorous and the class has the better teacher. You don’t need 4 years of sciences at most colleges.
