Do I need to take ACT with writing?

I'm a rising senior. I've taken the ACT three times, all without writing. The last time, I got a 34 which was my goal so I decided to stop taking the ACT. However, a couple of the colleges I'm considering (UPenn, University of Pittsburgh, the SUNYs, for example) require the writing portion. I haven't taken the SAT either. So if I apply to a college that wants the ACT with writing, will they reject me if I'm otherwise pretty well qualified (4.0 GPA, top 1% if my class, tons of AP classes, decent ECs, etc)?

If they want ACT with writing (which is most schools, from what I remember) then it’s not an option. You can’t apply if you haven’t taken ACT with writing or SAT to those schools (it’s not a plus to have the writing portion, it’s a requirement). So you can take the SAT in the fall or take the ACT with writing.

Yea you have to have the writing. I honestly don’t even understand why it’s offered without
