Do I need to take AP Biology for BioMedical Engineering?

I am going to be a senior this fall of 2015 at my high school.

Freshman year I doubled up and took both Chemistry Honors an Biology Honors.

Sophomore year I took AP Chemistry.

Junior Year I took AP Physics 1.

Since I want to be a doctor one day with a BME undergrad major, I wanted to take AP Biology my senior year. However, I had schedule conflicts and the AP Biology class conflicts with AP Calculus BC. (Which I definitely want to take). So instead, I am taking AP Physics C. Would this look bad to colleges when I apply to schools? More importantly would it still be worth it because I have not taken Biology since freshman year so I do not have as strong an understanding in Bio as Currently do in Chem and Physics. I am afraid if I do not take it and i decide in college that I do not like Biology my whole plan would be ruined. Thank You!

I would advise it. It will be rough to see biology again at the college level without having touched it for three years.

Most engineers rarely have to take biology; this major is the exception. I agree with bodangles.

But you need to take some sort of ap calculus!

I think it’s fine (and I was a biology major in college). You’ll take intro biology in college, and you’ll be fine. If you have to choose between AP Calculus BC and AP Biology, I agree with your decision that you should take calculus.

You’ll learn pretty quickly in college if you don’t like biology (through your intro biology class), and you’ll be able to readjust if you want to do something else. But general biology isn’t really representative of biomedical engineering anyway, so I don’t think taking AP Bio now will really tell you anything about whether you will or will not like biomedical engineering.
