Do I need to take AP exams for the classes I took at the community college?

I understand that I need to take AP exams for the high-school AP classes, but do I need to take AP exams for the classes I took at the community college? Those classes are at the college level. What is the downside of not taking AP exams for the classes? NO AP Awards from College Board?

Wouldn’t the classes you took at community college just transfer as college credits to your four-year university?

An AP exam is designed to evaluate whether or not you have mastered a subject to a level that is roughly equivalent to what you would have learned in a real college class. So since you have actually taken a real college class there is no reason at all for you to take the AP exam in that subject. Most colleges will award transfer credit for your CC classes even if they wouldn’t for a given AP score.

If you’re applying to top schools, a good bit of them won’t take college credits, even if they accept AP credit. Also, some schools use AP tests for placement. OP, look into the AP credit/college credit information on the websites of the schools you’re interested in. I personally haven’t taken any AP exams for the college classes I took.
