I am doing engineering for class 2018. I heard that AP math is not necessary since the Math Placement Examination is the sole determinator for which math one should take. Is this true? Moreover, I have gotten a decent grade for my Alevels chemistry and physics and how many credits can I generally get?

Thanks

I don’t think they’ll let you enroll in a math class more advanced than Calculus I without any AP or college credit in it. If you’re trying to skip any Calculus course then you’ll need to take AP.

Yes, you do use the math placement test for course sign ups. The AP exam gives you credit should you pass, math placement does not give credit. That being said, there are those who pass the AP exam or take Calc. dual credit that do not pass the math placement test to place them out of Calculus. You can take the placement exam more than once, but there are strict time restrictions between tests. Several majors take the math exam, not just engineers. Here’s a link for some FAQ - you seem to have lots of questions --hope it helps. http://engineering.tamu.edu/easa/areas/academics/faq-admitted#math

It is much better to just instead take the math courses at a local community college. What AP classes do in a year you can do in half the time at a CC

I can self study lol …Thanks anyway
