I am in AP Chem this year but want to take SAT subject tests in US History and Math 2. Is that bad if I want to major in a science?

I think studying and taking the SAT subject tests are a big waste of time. It may get you out of some intro classes in college, but so will AP tests, and after that no one cares what you took.
Aren’t colleges not even requiring the SAT subject tests anymore?

dina: The Ivies require 2 if you don’t take the ACT.

OP: AP Chem should be good prep for the subject test; why wouldn’t you take it?

Was not any waste of time for my D. as she took them soon after AP exams. I am not sure if she studied specifically SAT II’s at all. However, couple of things to consider. D. took them because she needed them whil applying for bs/md programs. Nobody needs them if applying regular route only. I do not believe that she took SAT II in Calc, but subject tests in US History is by far the most difficult SAT II with the lowest score out of all of them Again, D. did not care much as she actually had a transferrable college credit for US History, it was not even AP, she took a college class while in HS. On the other hand, I believe that she also took SAT II in Chem., which was easy and Bio (kind of intermidiate I believe in difficulty level). SAT IIs are harder than ACT. If you need only 2, I would not advice taking US History (BTW, D. had an A in her college class, but History is her hardest class, so check out the average scores and decide).
I totally agree with the “AP Chem should be good prep for the subject test; why wouldn’t you take it?”

I was thinking about not taking it because the curriculum for AP Chem changed this year so I would have to study more concepts. Would it look bad if I didn’t take the subject test for chem even if I took the AP test?

I’m not too worried about history though.

^Would it look bad to who? You got to be more specific.

On college applications
