I'm looking to be a PoliSci/English double major, and I signed up for the math diagnostic at orientation...do I need to take it, or should I cancel it? I've heard that at most I'll have to take Stats (I took Calc AB and pulled solid As, but a 2 on the exam...)

that is the required coursework for polisci, and i'm sure english is pretty much along the same lines in regards to the absence of math. looks like you lucked out, the closest thing to math you'll need is econ, and you can sub that out for anthropology or sociology or something

i should have been a humanities major... :sigh:

I'm pretty sure that you don't need to take the Math Placement Exam since the test determines what kind of Calculus class you're entering into (Pre-Calculus, Math 3A, or Math 31A). For a poli-sci major, you need to take one statistic course (Stats 10, Soc M18, Econ M40, Anthro M80, Geography M40, or Poli Sci 6).

Well Anthro M80 is a statistics course so you will still have math involved. Here is the description of the class:

[quote]
Elements of statistical analysis for social sciences. Presentation and interpretation of data, descriptive statistics, theory of probability and basic sampling distributions, statistical inference including principles of estimation and tests of hypotheses, introduction to regression and correlation.

Operative word in your quote: "basic." =) I actually enjoyed stats in hs (thank you, Math Methods IB) so it shouldn't be too much of a blow to the GPA.
