I took the ACT in April and got a 29 with an 11 writing. I took it again in June and got a 31, but my writing was a 9 :(. When I go to take the ACT again, do I need to take the writing section, or will colleges take a writing score from a previous testing along with more recent multiple choice scores?

If you're happy with your composite score, I wouldn't retake it. Your composite score is more important.

By the way, I got into Dartmouth with a 9 writing. I'd say you're good.

an 11 is really good. i got a 10 last time. you beat me.

I've also wondered about that. Can someone help me with this?

Say you get a 10 on writing this time with an ok Composite, and you take the test again in October and you improve your Composite score but your writing goes down. Can you send your writing from the previous test without colleges seeing the composite score? Or will they see it either way?

^ No, they'd see everything.
