I lived in Nigeria for 11 yrs and I'm currently attending the American School of Paris (this is my sixth yr). The official language in Nigeria is english + I have a 620 in SAT Writing (10 on the essay) and 640 on CR. I am applying to UMichigan and I heard they still require Tofel scores. What should I do ?

You need to contact UMichigan for clarification. You have to meet their requirements.

Schedule the test. Toefl (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) is generally required for non-English speakers but some schools may require it of all foreign students. If Michigan "lets you off the hook" (get it in writing!) you can skip the test. If not you are ready to proceed.

UMichigan is an excellent institution of higher learning. It is also a huge state school that has to educate many students with limited resources. This can engender a certain bureaucratic mentality. "Getting with the program" and "going with the flow" will maximize your happiness there.

TOEFL is mandatory to students whose native language is not English

my problem exactly! im not sure if i should take tofel too

Its better to take toefl if you dont have english as your native language. Also, emoyewole your CR and W scores on the reasoning aren't very good. I strongly recommend that you take the toefl as it will prove that you can speak, read and write in english.

Is it too late to take it now? I read a thread that send all supporting documents must be in by February and the next results don't come out until March. Im really beginning to get anxious. Plz reply

Is there a TOFEL - Test of French as an Extra Language?! I didn't know! :P

For most schools you don't have to submit your TOEFL scores if you score above 600 in CR.
In this particular case I don't know. Ask the Office of Admissions.
