Do I need updated letters of recommendation?

Hi,
I have several recommendations written by people who knew me very well in High School and Middle School...One letter was written by my debate coach and one by my guidance counselor...They are very good letters of recommendation but they are several years old. Should I have these people write me more up to date letters of recommendation or is that not necessary? Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Josh

Recs ideally should come from teachers in your senior year. In a pinch, a teacher from junior year can be used.

Even if you graduated from high school a few years ago, get updated letters and perhaps from people who have known you more recently.

dufus: recs from senior year teachers!?

I thought it wasn't a very good idea to ask your senior teachers for a recommendation.

In this case, I'm just repeating what I have seen on CC in the past. I have never seen anything in the college guides. Personally I think I would use junior year teachers, but not sophomore.

I've always heard junior year teachers.
