Do I REALLY have a chance to a UC?

Hello, here are my grades from 9-11 year of highschool as the first collumn shows the semester. I am taking 3 Ap’s right now (Bio, Eng, Pyshcology) Currently have all A’s and taking a fifth year of math to make up fro my intensified alegnra, I really want to get in Santa Cruz, Irvine, Merced and Riverside. Any UC I don’t have a preference and I also want to get into the Medical field (NOT nursing). I don’t know specifically what field but I really like pediatrics, cardiology, and Ob/GYN. I just really want to know my chances my SAT is 1120 and ACT i am taking in December! Oh I am also in California, and lived here all my life!

Based on your SAT alone I’d say Merced is definitely a possibility. The others are a bit of a reach, especially UCI. That being said, a lot of students excel on the ACT compared to the SAT, so the best way for you to raise your chances is to study hard for this ACT. You’ll be cutting it close to the application deadline, but you should be fine provided you have your ACT scores sent directly to the schools that you’re applying to.

You can check the websites for these colleges to find the average SAT, ACT, and GPA of their admitted applicants. Don’t stress too much about the factors that you can’t change, just keep your grades up this semester and make sure to put in time studying for the ACT. Best of luck.

UC’s only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation.
Based on your posted stats, I get 9 A’s, 9 B’s and 6 C’s in a-g courses. I see only 2 AP classes (4 semesters of Honors points). This will give you a UC GPA of 3.29. Combined with SAT score of 1120, your only decent chance would be UC Merced.

UCM: 42%
UCR: 25%
UCSC: 10%
UCI: 4%
UCD: 3%
UCB/UCLA/UCSD/UCSB: 1%

Since you are CA student, you have many Cal states to choose from that will give you an excellent education. You would have a good chance at all the CSU’s except for Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach, San Diego, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly SLO.

Good Luck.

Because UC admissions have a subjective component, a strong essay and ECs may get you into UCR, UCM and perhaps even UCSC. Based on your stats alone, I think even UCM is a 50/50 proposition

Cal States like San Marcos, Sonoma, Sac, and Chico are all worth a look. UNR is also an option. They participate in WUE, which provides tuition discounts to applicants from neighboring states so the tuition is very similar to a Cal State.
