Do I REALLY have to...

I took the SATs in January and I got

CR: 690
Math: 770
Writing: 800

My schools include Swarthmore, Yale, UMichigan, Wellesley, among others.
I'd been all set for retaking SATs again this October because I wanted to raise my CR score, and I didn't want to regret not taking them come college rejections. But as the time has gone on and the deadline has gotten closer, the more I DONT want to retake them.
Will that CR score REALLY make or break my application? I have around a 96% average and a 4.4 weighted GPA and I'm taking the most rigorous courseload in my school. I was 5 out of 339 in sophomore year and I have yet to see my ranking from junior year.

I just don't want to take the SATs especially since I'm afraid I won't improve at all..

I’m glad you’re questioning the wisdom of taking this test again.

Don’t retake it. You’ll end up at an outstanding university no matter what.

Instead, consider donating the money to a worthwhile charity or, better still, take a friend out for a movie and snacks.

It depends on the schools you are going to apply. The SAT composite of 2280 is a great score, but for top schools that consider CR+M, 1460 is only around (or even below) the average. Particularly, the CR at 690 would be below the mid 50 (i.e. less than 25%) for top Ivies like Yale. For Swarthmore, UMich, and Wellesley, that should be fine.

I do agree on some level with Billcsho. Most schools will only consider the Math and Reading and a 1460 won’t stand out as much as a 2260 does.
A 1460 is a great score, don’t get me wrong. If you have outstanding ECs and all that, you won’t have a problem. Try to bring up the CR on practice tests and if it just doesn’t happen, don’t bother.

Thank you for the advice, it really does help. I will continue practicing and if by the deadline next week I still feel uneasy then I’ll just let it go.
