I'm a freshman and I was wondering what your opinion about mini fridges. Sure it's not a necessity, but will it really make my dorm more comfortable?

I'm buying a meal plan and I don't drink soda.

I'm a freshman and I was wondering what your opinion about mini fridges. Sure it's not a necessity, but will it really make my dorm more comfortable?

depends on your meal plan. I had a meal a day so a fridge was a must. You will probably have late nights studying or getting back to the dorm on a weekend from a night out and will be hungry/thirsty. I dont know about your school but we have no dining that stays open past 10 so having some food and drinks in the dorm was a must. Id definatly bring one

No, not a necessity, but will definitely be nice, especially if you want cold drinks.

I rarely had food in mine since I had a meal plan with a lot of meals, but did use it for leftovers, etc.

But definitely was advantageous for cold water, pop, juice, etc. Unless you want to go to a vending machine for that all the time at a dollar or two each.

Ok, sounds reasonable. Is one 4.3 cubic feet fridge enough for two people? My dorm allows 2 fridges per room.

It absolutely should be big enough. Make sure it meets your schools restrictions and requirements regarding size and amps.

For me its necessary, but then again I drink like a camel.

Get one. Gotta have some place to put the alc

I’ve thought about this for a while now, and I guess it depends on your needs. I personally will not be getting one until sophomore year and that’s only if I’m not on the meal plan then. I don’t eat a lot, and since I’m getting three 3 meals a day on my plan, I’m only uncovered for snacks. A Thermos food container keeps things hot or cold for HOURS, and a Pyrex should do the trick for things that can be stored at room temperature. I figure this way’s more convenient for me, for a few reasons:

I don’t have to get to a microwave to reheat my food.

Not having a fridge will save space and open up my room and make it look larger.

No issues with moving it and finding storage space for it at the end of the year.

There’s no point in keeping a fridge running 24/7 if I’m only going to have 2 spare meals in there, i.e. not a whole lot of food.

Do you see yourself using it a lot? If not, you could be saving a lot of space and energy.
You might also want to check with your roommate to see if you can share a fridge.

Gotta keep the brewskis cold. I’m renting out a mini fridge for $20 a year so renting might be the way to go.

the real question is do you want cold alcohol? if yes, then get a fridge. if no and you like your natty cold, then dont

Cosine, that’s lucky! At ASU it’s $250 to rent a fridge for the academic year and they yank it away from you the week before finals in May!

…which is why I just decided to get a 4.3ft^3 fridge for $50 off of craigslist.

soo jealous of the person who gets to rent a fridge for $20 a year! it’s $250 at my school, so i just bought one at best buy for $150 and i’ll sell it on craigslist when i’m done with it…

My school provides a fridge with the room, which is nice.

It’s actually $40 to rent a mini fridge for the year, but I’m splitting the costs with my roommate. Indeed a good deal
