I am about ready to submit my college applications and I am noticing that colleges like Brown, Hopkins, and Northwestern have an option to submit an additional resume in the activities section. I feel that I have adequately conveyed my achievements and extracurriculars well in the activities section of the common app, and that typing out a whole resume for my activities would be redundant, possibly even a nuisance for adcoms to read. However, many people out there on the internet and college websites praise resumes as a great thing to write and submit. Does this really affect my admission chances at all?
I think that resumes are an option for those who have so many activities (or activities that need more description) that they need the extra place to put them. If your resume would just be a recreation of your activities on the app, then yes, it would be redundant and would not be needed, and I think would be a nuisance if it was just the same info in a different format.
No, and don’t do it if it will contain redundant information, @TritoneSubNico .
I agree, if you have a quickly typed up resume that is a rehash of what is on your application then don’t include it. Admissions officers are swamped and are not looking things to read that are redundant. A resume may benefit someone who feels they need to expand on some activities, cannot include everything on the application etc.
