Do I retake the SAT?

Hi! USC is my number 1 school. I am out of state and am planning to take the ACT within the next few months.

I took the SAT for the first time in March. I underestimated it and did not study at all. Still, I scored at 2040. (CR:680, M:670, W:690)

I decided that that wasn't good enough, studied this time, and took it again in June. I scored lower.... 2020! (CR:640, M:700, W:670)

My combined highest scores brings me to 2070..

What do you think? I cannot believe I got worst the second time around, and would hate for it to happen a third time. But I feel my chances are dwindling for USC. I have only taken 2 AP classes so far (AP Eng Language: 5, AP Span Language: 4) and I am enrolled in AP Stats and AP Lit atm. I am planning to also take the Spanish subject test (I am not a native speaker, btw) and Math I. I have a 3.89 GPA and OK extra-curriculars (a job, many clubs, lots of volunteer, founded a club) BUT I ONLY HAVE ONE AWARD!! haha. I am so stressed out... help?

Yes, take it again if you are taking practice tests and doing consistently better (even if only in one section-- USC and many schools will superscore). The ACT may be your best bet, though, and it is great that you are already planning on taking it as well. Both my kids did better on the ACT

Good advice, thank you. Do you think the SAT practice tests will help me prepare for the ACT as well?

Honestly you SAT score is fine. Things happen and admissions will not penalize you for doing a little bit worse the second time.

You submit your highest score. SC does not “average” the scores.

Study, practice and take the ACT. All students are different. Some do better on the SAT and others on the ACT. Submit your highest score to the admissions committee.

Good luck.
