I'm taking the ACT this Saturday as a sophomore, and while I'd like for this to be my last time, I am wondering how I do the whole score-sending thing? I don't think I should send it to colleges yet but does anyone have any advice? Will these scores be able to be used in a year and a half when I am applying to colleges?

The schools can be used later when sending scores to colleges if you would like to send the score that you have recieved.

Thanks! I’ll just leave them blank for now, I guess.

Unless you have surpassed typical sophomore curriculum, I would definitely suggest that this NOT be the last time you take the test. Your scores should definitely increase with more education.

Did you do some practice tests and have some idea what your expected score range to be? If you do, you may put some safety schools (based on your expected score) and schools that want all scores on the list for free score reports.

At this point, the college won’t know who you are–what’s the point of sending it now?

I wouldn’t send it now. Unless you plan on graduating early, it’s too early. Your college list will be constantly changing, I promise you. ( I was editing mine right up until Christmas break, and I applied to schools REA)

Thanks for the advice. I ended up with a 34, which I’m happy with but I’ll still retake it as my math and writing scores were low. What/how should I send now?

Don’t send until you apply. It’s pointless when you may be retaking.

It may be best to just wait and eventually send them just your best score once you have actually applied to a college. Without an application they have no file to attach your score to. Your score is magnificent. Now work on becoming the complete package with leadership, community and ec’s. Yes, you can send any high school score, but I highly suspect you will eventually be sending a 36! Study hard and do this well or above again and you will likely be a national merit finalist. You should want to take it again (junior year) for qualifying for that. That opens a lot of scholarships and merit aid packages. If your guidance counselor has not talked to you, they should. They need to inform you of all these important dates and scores. Make an appointment to talk to them and your parents need to be aware of this. Do you already know this? If not talk to your gc.

Thanks for the advice - I am constantly talking to my GC, so I should be okay, but I think you might be mixed up - NMS requires the PSAT/SAT so unfortunately ACT scores don’t count for that. I have taken a practice PSAT blind though and got a 213 so I’m hoping for NM!
