Do I stack up at Harvard?

Thank you for taking the time to read this everybody; I really appreciate it ! I am a sophomore, and I am starting to think about colleges-I would like to receive others' opinions on how I stack up or if I am even on the righ track. I posted a thread earlier, but I would like to better post my resume.

I am interested in biomedical engineering and would like to become a patent attorney. I am looking at some Ivies (Brown, UPenn, Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth), Duke, Vanderbilt, MIT, Hopkins, Wake, and Chapel Hill.

I have NOT taken the SAT yet (will take in fall). My mom went to Brown and I have done two summer camps there. I am 100% Greek (child of immigrant) living in the South.

Class Rank: Tied for first (39 total kids in grade) in rigorous private school

Passions/Interests:

Inventions: I have about 20 inventions that I whipped up, and will try to work to begin patent process this summer.

Debate: I just completed my first year of debate, and I loved it! I set a school record for best debut, have continued to hold best overall record in LD, and appear to be best LD debator in school.

Medical Assistance: This summer, I am doing an extensive volunteer oppurtunity/internship where I shadow doctors and work with underpriveleged individuals.

Basketball: I have been Captain + MVP for back-to-back seasons now and have grown greatly in the game. I impressed a Brown scout last year while doing a camp, and I would be open to playing in college (already have one scholarship lined up).

Clarinet: I have played clarinet for over six years now, and enjoy it greatly. I write my own music sometimes, but I just love the sound of this instrument.

Church Service: I have been altar assistant for three years now in my Church, participate in youth group projects, and will have leadership oppurtunity next year.

If you took the time to read all of this, thank you so much and tell me what you think! :)

do you have a life?

Nah, just kidding but you have a myriad of things there. Try narrowing them down and focus on what really matters instead of having large lists of an impressive looking resum

…

Yes, I do have al ife, and it is not ALL work, guys. I think that my favorites are inventing and medical volunteering…I just hope that I have an above average shot…but we’ll see what happens.

omg!!! we are almost the same!!! what was ur ACT score cause we are close!
I am also 100% greek, sophomre, parents were immigrants, do a lot of voulunteering, taking AP Chem, AP lan, Spanish III, AP Calc BC (skipping HTPC by taking over summer), and APUSH junior year. I will also be captain of the debate team junior year!! Took enriched physics sophomore year even though it is a junior class, took Ancient/Medieval history freshman year. not an alterboy but go to church a lot lol. math team (similar to ur mathelete) but u have me there with the sports lol. Im just in 1 lvl higher math. Good luck! Maybe we end up at the same place?

Hey olleger, that would be sweet to end up at same place! You’re right, we have so much in common. Congrats on your advanced math placement (shows dedication to take precal. over the summer)! Right now, I haven’t taken SAT or ACT, so I don’t know what to expect really. What’s your score? I wish you the best of luck!!! :)

PS, Greeks RULE!!!

hey, i think you have ok chances…i am 100 percent Greek as well, child of 1 immigrant…i live in new jersey…took about the same classes as you so far with the exception of a few less AP tests and i did pretty well in school (pretty sure im number 1 in my class)

i got into Harvard regular decision… so if i did it, you certainly can too

Thanks yourmgoes2colg…Congrats on getting into Harvard! That’s quite an accomplishment; thank you for the kind support and advice! :)

BTW, your name rocks…it’s so funny! I forgot about this line from Napolean Dynamite…sorry, I’m ranting about movie references, but I did laugh. :)

how did you score on ur AP tests, or you havent taken any yet? i got a 5 on calc AB, Bio, Env Sci, and a 3 on english in my junior year.

hahaha yes! Greeks do rule!
i got a 34 on the ACT but im going to try to get a 35 junior year.
where do u think u will apply?

I haven’t taken any SAT/ACT scores or an AP test yet (will take in 2 weeks), so I know that this makes it harder to assess me.

And yes, we Greeks do own!!! Congrats on getting a 34 on the ACT, and I hope that you get your 34, olleger!

I think that I will apply to Brown, UPenn, Yale, Harvard, Wake, Duke, UNC, Virginia Tech, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, and maybe NC State. Where do you think you will apply?

Hmmmmm. Ive really been thinking about Northwestern as a top 3 choice. Obviously harvard, yale, princeton. Also Upenn, Wash U, U of Chicago (i live near chicago hence the northwestern too), UIUC may be my saftey net, Rochester (just because both my parents went there and i just want to be accepted there. may be my other saftey net), and yeah thats all i have really thought of as of now lol.

Btw no princeton?
im takin AP gov test in 2 weeks. same for u?

That’s a solid group of colleges that you’re applying to, olleger! Good luck on your AP Gov. exam, and I am taking AP Euro.

I haven’t looked at Princeton really, but I don’t know if I would REALLY want to go there, if it comes down to only Princeton (like that’s going to happen! LOL  ).

thanks dude. good luck on ur AP test too. lol if anyone gets into Prineton i give them major props, its a huge feat. do you live near the east coast ivys?

penn sucks ass…and princeton isnt that good either…its all snobby old money wasps…us greeks wouldnt fit in too well there

Am I the only one who finds it much harder to get into Yale than Harvard or Princeton? Maybe it’s just at my school, but Yale seems much more selective (in terms of the people it looks for) although it’s acceptance rate isn’t like that of Harvard’s.

I’m not sure if that’s true or not, light10491. I mean at my school, there are two kids going to Yale next year, but only one going to Harvard.

I wish I could tell you, but I don’t know. Where do you live, that may make a difference?
