Hello,

I applied to Brown ED this year, and I was wondering if you guys could chance me! By the way, I know I’m gonna get slaughtered on this cause a lot of my stats and such aren’t up to par- especially from the rest of you CC’ers. But if you would let me down gently, that would be great. :)

GPA: 3.95 unweighted (B, B, A- junior year)
SAT I: 2270 (700 CR, 770 M, 800 W)
SAT II: 610 chem, 700 korean, 750 math IIC ← (I realize that this will probably be one of my greatest downfalls…)

Nationality: Asian (Korean)
From: Federal Way, Washington
Intended major/profession: bio/pediatrician
IB score: 4 (spanish)
AP score: 3 (stats) ← I know…

Extracurriculars:
- Varsity tennis since freshman year: co-captain this upcoming season, placed in a couple tournaments, made it to state this past season.
- Heavily involved in church: leadership roles, Guatemala mission trip, etc. I also initiated a World Vision project where we raised about $2500 money to send supplies to those afflicted with AIDS in Africa.
- Founder/president of a Christian club at school
- Key Club: secretary (08/09), treasurer (09/10)
- National Honor Society: junior representative
- Elementary school tutor
- Hospice volunteer
- Babysitting… (listed as job)

Awards:
- Masonic Education Outstanding Junior Award (junior year)
- Cancer Essay Writing Contest: 3rd place
- Student of the Month award in math? (freshman year)
- Certificate of Award (Recognition for Academic Excellence)
- Center for Talented Youth

Overall, I tried to emphasize the fact that I’m passionate about helping, kids especially (thus the reason why I want to become a pediatrician). Also, my common app essay was about the day my dad died and how it affected me. (Could this be considered a hook?)

Our school sends a couple people to the Ivys every year. Two or three people got into Brown last year, I believe. Yesterday and today, four of my male friends have gotten into Columbia, Cornell, and Stanford already! Which makes things even more nerve-wracking…

Please chance me! Do I have even a minute chance? Please be honest, but stay nice? Thanks!

1)If your SAT IIs are a downfall I’m in trouble
2)I think you have a chance but I will be able to give you a definite 100% accurate answer if you can just wait till approx. 5:00 p.m. this coming Monday
3)That last one was a joke

hey I’m Korean too!!! I think your EC is gonna help you alot. Especially the tennis… going to states is a big thing. and scores aren’t everything. you won’t know for sure until monday so lets pray for each other (and of course for ourselves) will you chance me as well? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/801459-whats-my-chance-ed-brown.html

@ bluecoast- Haha, well compared to everyone on here and everyone who gets into the Ivies I felt kinda blah about my scores. Are you applying ED?
@ smileeLv- Thanks a lot!

I don’t do chances. But when someone makes a post like this I feel compelled to comment.

With SATs of 2270 and an unweighted GPA of 3.95, you are literally sitting at the very tippy top of the applicant pool in terms of your stats. I don’t care if you are Korean or a WASP or from the planet Mars, those are excellent scores. Please be proud of what you have achieved, and understand that by denigrating your scores you are being hurtful of other kids who have scored lower than you.

If you actually look at acceptance threads on CC, you’ll see that of the students accepted, there is a wide range of scores represented. The top schools do not automatically accept everyone above a 2350 SAT, nor do they deny everyone with scores below 2100. Understand that if you get in, other kids will probably look at you and say – well, of course s/he got in, he scored 2270 on his SATs and has a 3.95 GPA.

Good luck!

@newuser7-Yeah I applied ED and I’m also very nervous about it. I actually had a friend who got into Yale EA last year that told me not to go on CC because it would totally shatter any hopes I had. Though I still go on I’ve decided to take all the stats/comments I see here with a grain of salt, but I really believe you have an excellent shot

Do you go to TJ, and do you know Sophia?

@fireandrain- Sorry, I guess I’m just really nervous by looking at all the applicants on CC. Everyone seems to have all of what I have + much more! But when I talked about my scores, I was more referring to my SAT II scores. After I got those results, people have been a little less encouraging of me to apply to Brown… haha. But thanks a lot for the comment, I appreciate it.

@bluecoast- Yeah, CC makes everything a little more nerve-wracking. But at the same time it helps eases things by knowing you’re not the only one freaking out about it all… haha. Thanks a lot :)

@seattleyj- Yes, I do… haha who are you??

@ newuser 7

Haha. I’m just a passerby and I going to Federal Way today to meet up with Soph. and to attend an award ceremony.

The best of luck to your endeavors :)

Oh, well that was random. Hahaha how’d you know I know her? And thanks!

@ newuser7
She told me that she had volunteered at a hospice and I knew of only one school in Federal Way that constantly sent students to the Ivy Leagues.

Congrats on your school’s ranking of #1 public high school in the US! =)
You have a great GPA and test scores. You also have a lot of extracurriculars and awards. Therefore, I think you have a great chance of getting in =)
The more I look at these chance threads, who got in last year and etc, the more I think it’s really just the essays that matter ><
OMG! I WANT TO BE A PEDIATRICIAN TOOOOOO! but… I wrote that I wanted to major biophysics. I guess biophysics is somewhat related haha
