Do I stand a chance? Help, please...

Hi! I'm a HS Junior and I really want to get into Rice (#1), Johns Hopkins, Harvard, or Baylor. Yet I don't think I stand a chance...

-4.4 Weighted GPA (don't know how to convert)
-1820 SAT [530 Math] [630 CR] [670 Writing] 9 Essay
-Violinist in school's symphonic orchestra
-Active NHS member
-2 time Scholastic Gold Key Winner for Short Story
-2 APs, plan on taking 3-4 next year plus 2 dual credits at community college
-getting internship at cultural non profit organization soon (hopefully, hehe)
-Will be taking ACT for the first time in June

Thoughts? And yes, I know. I'm a pathetic case.

You have no chance at all for Harvard. I don’t think you have a chance at Johns Hopkins either.
Not sure about the others.

Don’t listen to bobtheboy. He’s posted insensitive comments like this frequently. As for your chances, you have 0% chance of getting in to these schools If you decide not to apply, so I say go for broke and give them a shot! Don’t sweat it. :-)

I’m just being realistic. That’s your opinion; my chances have actually been criticized by others for being too generous. Obviously, I am no authority on people’s chances, but few people on this forum are. Based on OP’s stats, which include a pretty average GPA for Harvard applicants, an SAT far below that of average Harvard applicants, and EC’s weaker than the average Harvard applicant’s, I said that they have no chance. Okay, I will amend this: their chances are so miniscule that it would be better for them not to waste their time and money on the Harvard application. I guess OP could apply to Johns Hopkins, but were I OP I wouldn’t. Unless OP is a URM. OP, come back when you have retaken the SAT and/or taken the ACT.

OP, what is your ethnicity?

With that test score you wont get into any of those except baylor.
If you get that SAT to a 2100+ however, i would say…actually hmm i would say that harvard is a high reach, John hopkins is a reach, and rice is a reach.

It looks like you havent done anything at all :/

SAT is way way way too low. Raise it about 500 points, 300 at the least.
If those are all the APs offered from your school, then fine. Otherwise, 2 in your junior year is a little weak.
I don’t see any academic theme in your ECs other than the two Gold Keys (which is impressive). I feel like something is missing from what you’ve described in your OP…
All of those schools (except for Baylor, which I know nothing about) look unlikely with your SAT.

@bobtheboy You, nor anyone else here on CC, knows how their school calculates GPAs. S/he could have a 4.0 for all we know.

As @violistchan said, if you don’t try, you have a definite 0% chance of making it. So if you want it as much as you seem to, go for it. Good luck!

My ethnicity=Persian.

And btw, my school is structured in a weird way where classes only last a semester each. For instance, if you take Chemistry at my school, each term is like a semester at a regular high school.
