I've been trying to get competent feedback considering my application for the IR-course offered by Yale in german forums, but people seem to have a lack of knowledge so I hope that you guys could tell me if I should consider applying to Brown or not?

Could it be a hook that I'm half slovenian, which can be considered as an 'underrepresented country' at Yale?

I would be really grateful if you guys could give me a realistic feedback!

Hey! Thanks for chancing me, I am going to bring my test scores up without a doubt lol As for your stats, I like the things you participated service wise for the community, but I don’t see any focus. For example, you do sports, debate, acting, management, ect. I guess you just have to make sure that you show structure and that you focused on a few things instead of being all over the place (as well as EXCELLING in those areas). Your essays also have to be creative. I think you have a shot but then again, it’s Yale - and the percentage of admission is so low that you never really know what they’re looking for! Good luck! Maybe we’ll be studying together next year… you never know! (FINGERS CROSSED!) :)

Thank you for the honest reply I guess it’s going to be all about the essays. Actually I thought that my focus would be more in the Politics/Debating Activities since the German School System doesn’t offer you tons of different Ec-Activities you get to choose from, in fact the Student has to encounter different Clubs and further Ec-Accomplishments individually (What I did by founding the Model UN Club, which was quite a challenge due to the fact that that kind of Club is totally unknown in Germany and not existent in many schools)

Anyways would be great if we’ll be studying together next year, even more because you also like me tend to apply for the Global Affairs Major. (If I got you right ) (As we say in Germany ‘toi toi toi’)

And another question that was coming up my mind while reading through different threads at the Yalie Forum:

Various people mentioned that they traveled to different countries during their summer vacation (without any social motivation, for example to build up houses).
Will it be a plus for my application that I visited many different countries (30+) on all continents? (I plan to apply for the GA-Program)

Your CV appears to be quite outstanding, and I think you’re strong academically (what’s your within school ranking?). I’ll most likely PM you to ask why you’re pursuing IR and why not Econs or something along that lines - I’m trying to understand how your activities support your interest in IR. As for the travel - 30+ countries is outstanding, but it really depends on why you traveled there and what you were doing there. You certainly don’t want to just come off as a rich, privileged kid who holidayed in multiple countries, but if you went and did social work in those countries, then I believe it’s worth a mention.

I don’t see any flaws, maybe your SAT score and that Lit 700 (but doesn’t matter THAT much that it’s 700 i think) and the fact that Arbitur is even more obscure (hey that rhymes) than other international systems and they may have a problem converting into GPA or seeing your school rigor
but Brown’s Brown, and Im applying there too and the essays seem to weigh quite a bit for them. if you don’t think writing is particularly your strength i suggest starting on them as quickly as possible and revising over and over. why particularly Brown, though? I’m applying too but if i get into any of my west coast schools i’d choose them over east coast…

lol i found your Drinking is not cool campaign funny… you should’ve seen Hessentag this year
