Do I stand a chance ?

Hello,
I am from Sierra Leone and I have a degree in Electrical Engineering. My GPA is 3.49. Actually when before that I was in Ukraine studying petroleum engineering and my GPA for 3 semesters was 3.92. I obviously found education in Africa far tougher than in Ukraine which is obvious from my GPA. Infact I got 3.92 because I got a B in sports.
I am really looking forward to study in America and I have to say I cannot afford the high tuition fees of the American Universities. Maybe if I kill myself I can afford $5000. I want to enter into any top 50 universities in America. I wonder if someone knows of a university or a place where to apply to see if they can assist a poor African book.
I had some friends who went to America as soon as they had completed school here and they graduated 2 years ago with distinction in their respective fields. In Sierra Leone, we take the London GCE A levels and I was first in the country at the time with As in Math, Chemistry and Physics and B in biology.
I know that it is extremely hard to acquire a scholarship if I am not an American or I have no political connection whatsoever. So what can I do ?

If you already have a bachelors degree, you would be better served apply for masters programs here. It sounds like you are thinking about another bachelors.

Check the schools…and see what types of aid they have available for international graduate students.

No. I meant financial aid for a masters degree. Why would I want to do another bachelors. The thing is in America everybody seems to be getting 3.7+ GPA. The system of grading between America or other European system and Sierra Leone is different so my 3.49 GPA is not reflective of my abilities. Actually here 3.2 GPA is the limit for a first class degree and in a group that started with 120+ students only two achieved 3.2 and above including me. I hope you understand.

Read through everything at https://www.educationusa.info/</a> Then get in touch with the counselors at the advising center in Freetown https://www.educationusa.info/Freetown</a> They are expert at helping students like you get through this process. Do not compare yourself to students who graduated from college or university here. You will be compared to other international applicants who are coming from many different educational systems.

The thing is in Sierra Leone as well as in most 3rd world countries, you need to have some political connection for you to be allowed a scholarship.
