Some cool things about my high school:

Highly competitive magnet program
Newsweek ranked it 7th in the nation in its Find the Super High Schools column
Recipient of the 2006 Magnet School of Excellence Award
3rd in the US and 5th in the world based on IB exams administered
We're on wiki, too! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suncoast_High_School

I am currently enrolled in two magnet programs at my school, the MSE (math, science, and engineering) and IB programs. There are less than 20 students out of the '07 class who are "dualies" in these two rigorous programs.

My ethnic background is Spanish/Asian, and I'm Catholic.

So, can I make it?

is your rank weighted or unweighted?

also your courses are very impressive considering the years you took them. your shiny things also look good but your EC's, if i can be honest, seem somewhat generic. also your leadership section should improve, if possible (you still have time in your senior year).

simply, your academics seem impressive and i think you would present a very strong resume if you could add on to your EC's. try some volunteering... you can have some leadership positions in there while also getting in some community service.

some things i did was work at a non-profit corp. that helped developed low cost housing for chinese immigrants in the philadelphia chinatown. try something with your chuch or initate a new project.

When you say a "weighted rank" do you mean a rank that is based on a weighted gpa?

If that is so, then yes, my rank is weighted.

My school weights grades according to the following:

AP/IB courses:
A = 6.0
B = 4.5
C = 3.0
etc.

All other courses are based on a 4.0 scale.

BTW, thanks for the input, I appreciate it. :)

Of course you do. Don't be silly. Everybody has a chance. Well, most. It's just whether it's a big or small likelihood that they'll get in or not.

I want to add that the amount of AP courses you taken during your soph. and junior is quite impressive. If you rank isn't as high as it should be, because you enrolled into such a hard coureload, JHU will see that. Also, what is IB, is that harder than AP, or what?

Your list of ECs is fairly impressive, as well as your courseload. 5 APs as a sophomore is beyond the capacity of even CCers. That being said, your scores are not that good. But your ECs are good enough to compensate. I would try to work to bring that SAT score up. I'd say one more retake should do the trick. A 2200 at least and your good to go for JHU!

Push for 3 good SAT II scores. Above 750 should be your goal, but at least above 700.

Don't bother with the ACT now. Chances are if you've never taken it before, your first time isnt gonna be the most stellar. So just worry and concentrate on the SAT.

Good luck with the IB and with AP scores as they come out next month! And of course good luck next year applying to JHU!
