im planning to apply to the following schools giving good fin aid packages (or scholarships) :

-Duke U
-John Hopkins U
-Trinity College, CT
-Brigham Young, UT
-Lousiana State U
-Idaho State U
-Montana State U

How are my chances at these ? could you suggest some more colleges/univs in which i can get good fin aids ?
how bout the ivies ? (Yale, Brown or Stanford ? lol)

thnx

u seem like a average to an above average student. ur SAT scores could use a boost but looks like u are really good at math. u rank pretty high..but i see that u are applying to a lot of state univ..i would suggest applying to private univ or colleges..there u stand a better chance of admission and aid packages..and ACT and SAT are interchangeable at most US colleges...so if u do really well on the ACT... like 30+..then only submit ur ACT score..and are u going to be taking any SAT subject tests..i suggest that u take those to show ur depth. i would suggest not applying to ivies..not because u don't stand a chance but the fact that the competition is cut-throat...u would be better off investing ur money in a respected non-ivy institution.

UMich Ann Arbor, UIUC, UT Austin-public unis with very good engineering departments.

GaTech n purdue as well..

Ga Tech, Purdue, UMich Ann Arbor, UIUC and UT Austin all do not give financial aid...

If you plan to pursue engineering and you want financial aid from school, your best bet will be Trinity College (CT) or Swarthmore! :)

thats true,they're all state unis

i had better SATs than yours R: 580, Maths: 760 and W: 610 and had food GPA of around 3.5/4.0 but was still rejected by Trinity, Johns hopkins and Duke. you seem to be an average student when looking at the SATs. So I don't suggest you to apply to the top notch colleges. I am not discouraging you but suggesting you to be more realistic in your approch. I am an experienced campaigner in this one. Or you can apply to colleges like Bates, Connecticut and ohters where SATs are optional. But still you will have a tough time competing with other intelligent students ( I am sure the psychos will be there). Also try colleges like Lakeforest, Ohio Wesleyan University, Luther, Hiram and others. you might not get full aid but might still get substantial aid. PM me if really needed.

OWU has a 3-2 program with Caltech. i read in the Caltech's website.

hi folks, thanks a lot for your help ! ill try to focus on the private 1s thn the state. thnx again

can u pls. suggest me how can i increase my chance of getting in the good ones like duke and jhu ?? would good work exp and community service matter there ? moreover, if i get 30+in ACT, will that help ? do i still have to take the SAT sub tests if i wish to apply to the good 1s ? thnx

Apply to something like Middlebury. The SATs won't matter much there. Plus it is need blind even to us intels. You can join the 3-2 program then. But no matter what everyone says at the end of the day you r academics is what is the most essential even you have tons of ECs.
