Do I still have a chance?

I am a Freshman in High School, and I just got all my grades. From a normal view point, I am doing amazingly well. But am I from a Harvard view point?

Honors English: A+
Honors Spanish: A
Honors Latin: A+
Honors Biology: A+
Honors Algebra: A+
Honors History: A+
Honors Show Choir: A+

Please note that I had the flu during my first Spanish test so I got a 72, which brought down my A+ average. Also, next year I will be taking Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 to make up for taking Honors Algebra this year. I will be taking AP History, too.

For my Extra-Curriculars I am really involved with my school's Key Club (I'm VP) because I am very passionate about helping out, an Environmental Club (GO GREEN), the Science Team (I'm a Science Nerd LOL), and my absolute favorite: Drama Club. I also work part time as a Cashier at a local Farm Stand on Weekends and every Thursday after school.

This is just first term, but I am almost certain that I can get a straight A+ final grade in all of my classes. Obviously no one is guarenteed admissions, but do I even have a chance?

PS: I want to major in Psychology and Harvard has an amazing program. Do not mistake me for one of those Ivy League Or Die losers. I just so happen to love the atmosphere that surrounds Cambridge, especially Harvard Square. Other schools I would love to go to are Berkely, UCLA, and Stanford.

Is this a joke?

No this is not a joke. I’m sorry if you think I am being stupid or pathetic but my guidance counselor sucks and I really need advice.

You’re a freshman. You have 4 years left… and you’re already worried about getting into Harvard? You need to take a deep breath. I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but obsessing over it now won’t help you and since admissions are such a crap-shoot anyways, if you don’t get in when you apply you will be really upset.

Take challenging classes, keep up an A average, but don’t obsess. Participate in ECs you love and enjoy.

As a senior who is applying to schools at the moment, I see a lot of people asking “Do I have a chance” and i always say: “it’s impossible to tell.” People with perfect stats get rejected and people with less than perfect stats get accepted. The application review process is holistic and unpredictable. Just do your best but don’t lose sight of what’s important. You’re only a freshman, so it’s ridiculous to ask if you have a chance when you just started high school, but you are on the right track.

So far, so good Emily. Unfortunately, 4 weeks into your freshman year isn’t much to go on. From other posts it looks like you also might be interested in Penn, cornell, MIT, Bowdoin, Williams, psychology, philosophy, nursing, nutrition, medicine and veterinary medicine. Not too many guidance counselors care much about college choices for freshman in high school. Focus on the now, keep up the great work and in 3 years I’m sure you’ll be staring at some excellent opportunities.

Well, after carefully reading your statistics, I have come to the conclusion that you have a 21.51589175938719357% chance of getting accepted.

(sarcasm)

Get off this site, or at least this section for a few years. It is way too early to tell. You haven’t taken a single SAT/ACT or gotten even a high school report card yet.
