Do i still have a shot?

Hi, I have a 3.58 gpa, and am getting around 31 and 32 in my ACT scores. I have very strong EC’s: Running my own children’s original theatre company for 8 years, president of german club, school newspaper editor, job as a political canvasser for High school democrats, selected peer counselor, volunteer for disabled children who are interested in theatre, have had 5 one act plays performed and have independently published 3, i have made several short films and have written several screenplays with New york film academy, studied acting at Stella Adler studios in new york, and am heavily involved in our school’s theatre company.

I was wondering if I had a shot at any of these schools especially in the Film (Screenwriiting), Creative Writing, and English majors:
Also, I am out of state for every school I am applying to~

NYU
Fordahm
Skidmore
Emerson College
Hamilton College
Syracuse
Loyola Marymount U- Film
Chapman U
UCLA
UC Irvine
Pepperdine
Lafayette
Oberlin College
Boston U
Ithaca
Gettysburg
Claremont Schools

You have a chance at many of these schools, although the formulaic UCLA and UC-Irvine may not fully consider your application because of their GPA thresholds. However, I don’t know exactly what their thresholds are and how they would apply them in your case.

Screenwriting is a VERY competitive field. NYU and USC’s programs run around 3% acceptance. That all said, the primary determiner for these programs is the portfolio you submit so you have as much chance as anyone else.

For the other majors you do have an ok chance at many of these schools. Your schools run the gamut. USC, NYU and UCLA are reaches whereas Gettsyburg is almost a sure thing.

“Claremont Schools” isn’t a thing in terms of getting chances. You need to research each of the 5C colleges and see which one(s) interest you and offer majors you are interested in. Just to make it easier, Mudd doesn’t have your majors, and Pomona & CMC are going to be out of reach if you are not hooked. So Pitzer and Scripps are the two that are possibilities.

Also, the concept of “out of state” only applies to state schools (so the UCs on your list, I think). If you need financial aid, take them off your list, none for OOS students at UC schools. For all other schools, have your parents help you run the net price calculators on the college websites to see what your estimated cost would be.

Re post 2: USC does appear on this student’s list. Hamilton, for the record, has the highest SAT scores in this group. Gettysburg typically has a 25th percentile SAT score that is higher than UCLA’s.

" Hamilton, for the record, has the highest SAT scores in this group."

Hamilton is a good school, but i’m sure their SAT scores are not higher than at least 3 of the Claremonts:
Harvey Mudd (I think their SAT scores are highest in US, along with CalTech).
Pomona
Claremont McKenna
(Pomona and CMC tied for most selective LAC in country this year*, with acceptance rate of 9.76%).

  • Judging only by the metric of Acceptance rate, which-as has been pointed out to me on this site- isn't the only barometer of selectivity....lol!

Dont know about the other Claremonts.

I temporarily did not consider the Claremonts because no particular school had been specified. This is how some of the schools mentioned compare, by simple order, by SAT/ACT scores:

HMC
Pomona
CMC
Hamilton
Scripps
Oberlin
NYU
Pitzer
UCLA
