Just assume that they're above average (one major "passion" + a few school clubs and other activities)

I know that UCLA probably favors grades over standardized test scores, so my GPA sets me back a lot. Do you think a really good essay might be able to get me considered? Also what kind of reach would UCLA be for me (low, mid, high)? Be brutally honest please.

Extra note: My parents won't have any problems paying, even for OOS costs

Keep your harding working, work seriously on your college essay and application. YOu should be fine.

I like your SAT2 and AP Scores. 555555555555! :]

I think are you wasting your time retaking the SAT- 2200 -> 2300 isn’t a significant difference. Like you said, your GPA is your main weak point. Unfortunately you can’t do much about that, so focus on writing a good essay and hope for the best.

IMO, the top UC’s like to pick students who have the best stats relative to their peers. So if you feel your stats are above your competitors at school, i’d say you have a good chance. OOS helps you as well due to the economy.

^I’m pretty sure that I have higher stats than most people in my school who actually want to enroll at UCLA. However, a bunch of Ivy hopefuls might apply to UCLA as a safety, and I’ll he screwed over if that happens (let’s just hope they all apply to Berkeley instead :D). I guess I’ll have to write a spectacular essay to set me apart =/

bump 10char

I’m just guessing… isn’t being OOS an advantage in this economy? :P

Yes, OOS is a big advantage so you are in luck. I would say you have about a 30% chance, rough estimate. Your unweighted GPA is awefully low, I’m sorry. It’s not low enough to count you out of the game though, especially with your scores. Also, it really really depends on who from your school applies to UCLA now. That’s a big deal for borderline applicants because it makes you look either bad or good depending on your school peers.

About the UW, I thought the UCs only cared about weighted UC GPA?

And also, I’m screwed for sure now because I bet a bunch of ivy hopefuls are going to apply here as a safety, and their test scores should be the same while their GPAs should be way higher. Great. Do you think a great essay can save me, or I’m out of luck?

A good essay always can help your admission! Work seriously on your app and essay, that’s all you can do now.

note: Engineering major is hard to get in

What’s the UW since (following) freshman?

Also, how many monikers on cc do you have?!? Just stick with one. It wll be okay. Seriously.
