Hi everyone. I'm currently in my first semester at a california community college. I intend to transfer to a UC (top choices from most to least preferred: UCB, UCLA, UCD UCI) as a civil engineering major. I heard rumors that taking a foreign language in high school will not transfer into a UC. Is this true? I took three years of spanish in high school and I really don't have any room for a foreign language if I want to transfer out in two years (WHICH I REALLY WANT!!). Will someone please tell me if this rumor is true or not?

Check with your CCC’s IGETC worksheet just to be 100% sure, but 2+ years of high school foreign language normally satisfies the requirement.

AFAIK Not true.

For reference, here’s SMC’s IGETC worksheet. See the bottom of page 3 for a list of ways to satisfy the language requirement. 2 years in high school works.

It’s not true. The IGETC worksheet explicitly states that two years of the same foreign language in high school works.

lol did someone underline my AFAIK?

If you’re a CCC student you don’t even need a foreign language to transfer in (and this I was told by a UCB rep), but of course you’ll need it if you want IGETC (and you’ll need it to graduate!)

no, you dont need one
