Do I still have to take the ACT with writing?

I got a 33 composite with a 12 writing. I'm definitely going to take it again to hopefully get around a 35, but I'm not totally confident I can pull off another 12 on the writing. Should I start taking the ACT without writing, even if most of the schools I'm going to apply to don't superscore? Can I submit my english/writing score separately from my composite, or do they have to go together?

You can’t submit separately if the school doesn’t super score. So, if you think that you can make a 35 next time around, I would prepare for the ACT with writing. All of the ACT readers are trained to score homogeneously, so just do what you did last time. However, don’t knock your 33+12. That’s an excellent score that will get you in the door at most places. It might be wise to focus on other areas if you have surpassed the school’s ACT score range. Good luck!
