Do I take the ACT With or Without the Writing Test?

So I'm about to register today for the December ACT. I've never taken the ACT before. I have taken the SAT and taken 3 SAT Subject tests. I do not know much about the ACT requirements. Do I take the ACT with the Writing Test, or do I take the ACT with out the Writing Test?

Some schools require it with the ACT, so you're better off taking it. Also, if you want to do well, learn about the five paragraph essay (if you don't already know).

take it, just to be safe

Thanks for the advice. I just read Princeton (my dream school) requires the Writing so I just registered for it with the Writing

The writing test (which is just an essay) is at the end, so it won't wear you out for the multiple choice or anything, and it also doesn't affect your multiple choice scores at all (you just get separate, additional scores). So you don't have much to lose.

The ACT essay is pretty different from the SAT one. I suggest reading about it on the website and looking at the sample essays and scoring rationales there.
